Pray for Your Marriage {And Resources to Help You Start}

Can you believe it? We’re on our last chapter of Messy Beautiful Love! This week Darlene gives us what I think is the best possible marriage advice: pray for your marriage. There are so many things that we as wives are told to do on a daily basis, but sometimes I think all of the do’s and don’ts can overshadow this very important thing that we should be doing for ourselves and for our husbands – praying. As Christians we know that there is nothing we can do apart from God and His grace, and our marriages are no different.

In this chapter, Darlene shares with us 31 ways you can pray for your marriage – that’s one for every day of the month! I want to share with you a few of my favorites:

1. That we will draw closer to God.

9. That our marriage will be a Godly example to others.

14. That we will run to God in times of trouble.

20. That we will communicate wisely.

If you don’t pray for your marriage regularly, I’d like to encourage you to start. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s OK! There are tons of resources out there to help you. Here are just a few:

1. God’s Word

The Bible is always the best place to look when you’re felling uncertain of something and prayer is no different. Each and every one of the 31 prayers that Darlene shared in this chapter is based on a specific scripture passage.

2. Darlene’s Website

At timewarpwife.com, Darlene posts a daily marriage prayer to encourage you. Each day is different and there are tons in the archives. If there’s something specific that’s on your heart, but you’re not sure how to pray about it, I’m sure you can find some inspiration here!

3. Pinterest

I know that may sound a little strange, but you really can find anything on Pinterest! You can find everything from prayer prompts to blogs about prayer to printable prayers that you can take with you everywhere you go. I’ve got an entire board on Pinterest devoted to prayer.

4. Our Next Book

In just a few weeks we’ll be starting a new book that’s sole purpose is to encourage you to pray for your marriage! That book is The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian, and I would love for you to join me in reading it. We will begin reading the week of January 18th, and you can follow the link below to order your copy today!

Darlene’s {Last} Challenge:

Will you remember to pray for your marriage, or will you forget after closing this book? I challenge you to tie a pink scarf (or whatever color you have) to the oven door as a constant reminder to whisper a prayer here and there. When he asks you what that’s all about, you can say “This one’s for you, honey!”

I want to thank you all so much for joining me to read Messy Beautiful Love! It’s been a great journey together and I hope that you’ll join me in a few weeks to read The Power of a Praying Wife.
