Week 2 – Supernatural Marriage
You and Me Forever
Ch. 2: Pursue the Perfect Marriage
The song, “Come Alive” by Lauren Daigle, really speaks to me in this season of life. The same God that rose Jesus from the dead speaks and breathes life into us, and the same Holy Spirit that does this, dwells in us! We have the same life-giving power in us that Jesus did. Viewing marriage in light of eternity means that we have to live out a supernatural marriage.
There is no way that we can love our spouse as God has called us to without some supernatural help from the Holy Spirit in us.
“…the Holy Spirit moves us from an impossible situation into a position where it is impossible to fail.”
There is no marital situation that God cannot redeem. If He has the power to raise people from the dead, and He does, then the power to resurrect any situation in your marriage is a simple task for Him! He can make your marriage so appealing that people will long for what you have! All you have to do is let go of your fear and ask God to breathe life into your relationship.
There is no room for selfishness in marriage, just like there is no room for selfishness in your relationship with Christ. God calls us to die to self when he calls us to “deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me” (Luke 14:33) and the same goes for your marriage. My husband and I quickly learned just how selfish we were when we entered into marriage. We have had to do a lot of dying to self over the past 6 years to make our relationship with one another and with God as strong as it is today. You can’t love like Christ if you love yourself more.
“We are called to paint such an attractive picture of marriage that it causes people to long for the coming marriage with Jesus.”
Marriage was created to glorify God! Our purpose in the relationship is to create an earthly image of the marriage between Christ and His bride, the church. Drawing others to Jesus and His love for them by showing them what a supernatural marriage is like is what God has called all husbands and wives to.
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.” -Ephesians 5:31-32
It’s not too late for you to start showing the world how great Jesus’ love for them is! Start by asking the Holy Spirit that dwells in you how you can better love your husband. I promise He will answer! Comment below with some ways that you are actively pursuing a perfect marriage in Christ.
